At the Theatre BC Greater Vancouver Zone Festival held April 26 to May 2 at Metro Theatre in Vancouver , Delta’s newest theatre group Get Real Theatre came away with the coveted Best Production Award for their play “Eleemosynary” by Lee Blessing. Adjudicator Jeff Hyslop (yes, “The Phantom”) selected the group to represent the Greater Vancouver Zone at the Provincial Mainstage Festival to be held at the ACT Theatre in Maple Ridge in July. The group will perform there July 8. Karen Golden received the Best Female Actor award for her portrayal of Dorothea.
Get Real was also chosen Best Production in the People’s Choice Awards, where audience members who saw all six plays during the week voted for their favourite production. Director Stephen Torrence is especially thrilled with this honour, as it shows that the play was able to reach an entire audience of theatre goers. “Eleemosynary” is a touchingly funny and poignant play about the relationships of three generations of women, and features Karen Golden, Joanna Gaskell and Elaina Austin .
There will be two further performances of “Eleemosynary” to help prepare the cast and crew for the next phase of competition and to allow audiences to experience this wonderful production. Please make plans to attend if you have not yet had the opportunity, or come out to see the show again and cheer on Delta’s newest award-winning theatre company.
Shows are at the Tsawwassen Arts Centre, 1172 56 Street on June 26 and 27 at 8 pm.
