Co-Artistic Directors Sebastien Archibald and Chelsea Haberlin tell us what’s so great about their upcoming production of

The Zoo Story

Written by: Edward Albee

Directed by: Chelsea Haberlin

Starring: Colby Wilson and Sebastien Archibald

Presented by: Itsazoo (link)

The Zoo Story takes place on a bench in a park near the Central Park Zoo. Peter is a middle‐class publishing executive living in the cocoon of his American family life. Jerry is an isolated and disheartened man. Desperate to have a meaningful encounter with another human being, Jerry intrudes on Peter’s peaceful state by interrogating him and forcing him to listen to stories from Jerry’s troubled life ‐ including the dark reason behind today’s visit to the zoo. The story takes a desperate turn, and Peter is forced to take dire action.

Albee’s first play, The Zoo Story was written in a matter of weeks and, since its conception, has been heavily produced around the world. With work (Who’s Afraid of Virgina Wolfe? The American Dream) that takes a surrealist approach to themes of social disparity in modern life, Albee is one of the greatest‐respected playwrights of the modern American theatre.

The Zoo Story runs April 15‐18 and 22‐25, 7 pm, at the covered picnic area at Second Beach in Stanley Park.

Audience members are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs.

Tickets are by donation and can be reserved by calling 778.888.2435
