Chekhov at the Hycroft
April 16, 2008

Director Victor Vasuta and cast member Olesia Shewchuk on their upcoming production

Chekhov at the Hycroft

The Bear and The Proposal by Anton Chekhov

Dynama Theatre and The Vancouver Classic Theatre Society.

Experience these two comedic & passionate one-act plays before the exquisite, Edwardian backdrop of the Drawing Room at Hycroft Manor.

The Bear: A young widow is determined to live out her days in solitude. When a landowner drops in to collect a debt owed by her late husband, their encounter escalates into a heated argument, sparking a ferocious battle of the sexes.

The Proposal: A devout hypochondriac is on a mission to propose to his unsuspecting, anxiety-ridden neighbor. Moments away from popping the question, the re-emergence of a long-standing land dispute sends the whole thing sideways. This amusing satire exposes the brutal truth that often lies hidden in the blurred lines between love and marriage.

Site-specific and classy, two of theatre’s greatest comedic works performed within the grandeur of the Hycroft. Sounds like a perfect Spring evening.
